The Geneseo soccer team suffered defeats against DeKalb and Sycamore.

DeKalb at Geneseo

The Lady Leafs had a few chances just miss during their 1-0 loss against the Barbs at the Geneseo Soccer Pitch on April 20.

It was a tough and physical game, and neither team’s defense allowed clean shots on net.

DeKalb’s Maddie Hill scored the game winner on a nice feed inside the box which Hill deposited into the net near the far side post.

Tied at the half, Geneseo (10-1-0) had a lot of near-misses in the first half and was attacking on offense to start the second half against the Barbs (7-4-0).

The Leafs’ Jenna Decker had a shot sail just over the crossbar on a good look in the first half, and DeKalb had a shot inside the box fly high over the crossbar from point-blank range.

To start the second half, Geneseo controlled the ball for the opening eight minutes but couldn’t find the net and each team tallied just two shots on net in the second half.

Tori Verbeck had a pair of nice long range shots get too much air and go over the crossbar.

Taylor Magerkurth made a fantastic save with 14 minutes remaining to keep Geneseo within one, but DeKalb’s Meghan Hanson wouldn’t let a shot get by her.

Geneseo’s Decker had a shot from near midfield take a big bounce that was going to be impossible for Hanson to handle, but the shot hopped over the crossbar.

With six minutes to go, Geneseo had a free kick make its way past the DeKalb back line.

The Leafs’ Heather Dietrich ran down the ball but her kick to redirect the ball in the air floated wide of the post.

Geneseo at Sycamore

The Lady Leafs offense was shutout again falling against Sycamore 2-0 on April 25.

Each team generated four shots, but Sycamore scored twice in the second half to close out the Leafs (10-2-0).

The Lady Leafs’ next game will be at autograph night at home against NIB 12 West rival LaSalle-Peru on Thursday, April 27 at 6 p.m.
