The Geneseo boys’ track team picked up eight first place finishes and landed fourth in the team competition at the Rock Island ABC Invitational at Rock Island Public Stadium on April 21.

The Maple Leafs’ Reed Vanderheyden dominated the 300-meter hurdles Class A race claiming gold in 38.66, and Vanderheyden added a third place finish in the 100 hurdles in 15.28.

Geneseo’s Sam Thomas was runner-up in the Class A shot put with a throw of 52’1”, and Blake Duncan ran down third place in the Class A 3200 run (10:09.1).

GHS’ Nick Swartzendruber, Andrew Benhart, Nathan Soria and Cayson Frerichs won gold in the Class A 4x800 relay in 8:11.0.

GHS’ crew of Kyle Sellers, Frerichs, Swartzendruber and Vanderheyden claimed a title in the 4x400 relay in 3:27.3.

The Maple Leafs’ Andrew Pischke won the Class B 300 hurdles with a time of 41.16, and Andrew Pischke grabbed another Class B first place in the 110 hurdles in 15.72.

The Leafs’ Raymond Venneberg was runner-up in the B division pole vault clearing 10’6”, and Brandon Ramos finished in third place in the 3200 run in 10:23.3.

Colton Pischke won the C division 110 hurdles in 16.05, and Colton added a victory in the 300 hurdles in 42.93.

Geneseo’s Kaden Rink won the C division 800 run in 2:06.8, and Benhart finished runner-up in the C division 1600 run in 4:42.9.

Geneseo’s Lucas Hofer came in third in the Class C 400 dash (54.53), and Kaleb Decker finished third in the C division 3200 run in 42.93.

The Leafs’ Alex McAvoy finished in third place in the Class C discus with a throw of 118’4”.
