The Lady Leafs won three individual events and finished third in the team standings behind the Silver Streaks and Maroons at Moline’s Browning Field on April 24.

Geneseo’s Erika Furbeck won the long jump with a distance of 18’5.5”, and she added a victory in the 100-meter dash in 12.04.

According to, Furbeck has the best distance in the long jump (19’9”) in Class 2A, and she is currently second in the state of Illinois behind only Class 3A’s Jaimie Robinson from Homewood-Flossmoor.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Furbeck said. “I’m kind of use to being, not really an underdog, but second or third.”

Furbeck said, after having a growth spurt of an inch from last year, she was able to improve her speed by taking longer strides.

However, she believes if she focuses on just having fun that the rest will take care of itself.

“Hopefully, I can repeat what I’ve done under pressure at state,” Furbeck said.

Geneseo’s Josie Brown won the 1600 run in 5:35.1.

The Lady Leafs’ 4x800 relay team finished runner-up, and Geneseo’s 4x100 relay team added a runner-up finish.

Reece Bodeen finished second in the 100 hurdles, and Julia Poel ran down second in the 800 dash.

Geneseo’s Kelsey Olson finished runner-up in the shot put, and the Leafs’ Poel was third in the 200 dash.

The Lady Leafs’ Lindsey Francque was runner-up in the discus, and Emily Ryerson finished fourth in the pole vault.

Geneseo’s Bodeen added a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles, and RaeLynn Versluys was fourth in the 200 dash.

Sterling Relays

The Lady Leafs finished in fourth at the Sterling Relays at Sterling High School on April 28.

Geneseo’s Furbeck won the long jump with a distance of 17’11.5”, and Bodeen finished third in the 300 hurdles in 49.55.

Geneseo had a solid showing in the discus.

The Leafs’ Francque launched a throw of 104’4” to take third, and Katherine Beeson landed fourth with a throw of 103’8”.

Geneseo’s Rebekah Beard nabbed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 32’4.25”, and Dani Clary finished in a tie for sixth in the high jump clearing 4’8”.

The Leafs’ Alexys Johnson finished in sixth in the pole vault clearing 7’6”, and Kelsey Olson landed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 31’7”.

The Lady Leafs will begin postseason competition with the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Meet hosted by Rochelle on Friday, May 5 at 4 p.m.
