The Lady Leafs’ core of senior soccer players got one more game to share together on the pitch.

Geneseo seniors’ Katelyn Mielke, Paige Gramling, Ally Klein and Jenna Decker represented team Illinois in the second annual Iowa vs. Illinois All-Star game at St. Vincent Stadium in Davenport, Iowa on June 13.

The Lady Leafs’ Mielke and Klein controlled the backline for team Illinois and kept the high-powered Iowa offense off the board in the first half.

However, team Iowa took over after the halftime break with strong performances from players from schools like state champion  Assumption and state semifinalist North Scott.

Team Iowa turned up the heat on a 95-degree day and tallied a 9-0 victory.

Bettendorf's Paige Wagner finished with a hat-trick, and Assumption’s Liz Fennelly scored a pair of goals.

North Scott's Savannah Bogner scored a pair of goals, and Bettendorf's Alina Steffen scored two goals.

The Geneseo players meshed well with players from Moline, Alleman, United Township, Rock Island and Orion-Sherrard.

Team Illinois suffered a pair of first-half injuries including one to Orion-Sherrard keeper Milagro Avila.

Last year, team Illinois won the inaugural match 1-0.
