The Geneseo High School cheerleaders attended the NCA National Cheerleading Association Cheer camp at Chula Vista, Wis., from July 10 - July 13.

The Geneseo High School cheerleaders attended the NCA National Cheerleading Association Cheer camp at Chula Vista, Wis., from July 10 - July 13.

The Lady Leafs’ varsity and sophomore cheerleaders teamed up to compete as one squad in the varsity division and received great results.

The Geneseo squad’s performance earned the Top Team Trophy (the highest honor) Stunting Excellence Award, Herkie Team award for the squad that worked best together and helped other teams (voted on by other teams), NFHS certification, a bid to Nationals, two superior awards and an All-Around Superior rating.

Geneseo’s Jade Parr, Katie Watkins, Addison DePauw earn the America Needs Cheerleaders awards.

America Needs Cheerleaders and the Pin It Forward program is a way to promote all the values encouraged through cheer, like leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness, and motivation.

Geneseo had 20 All-American Nominees at the camp with NCA staff members nominating All-Americans throughout the camp.

In order to get nominated, cheerleaders must exemplify superior skills in categories like leadership, dance, motions, jumps, stunts and tumbling.

Geneseo cheerleaders earning recognition were: DePauw, Phia Easton, Maddy Biddle, Caylie Hessler, Parr, Brynn Johnson, Haylee Krebs, Kiersten Cathelyn, Kayla Anderson, Ashlyn Dochterman, Abbey Sancken, Abby VanderPloeg, Hannah Johnson, Megan Endress, Lauren Kass, Bailey Hornback, Madi Krause, Katie Kennedy and Reece Bodeen.

Nominees must try out to receive the All-American Award, and Geneseo’s Krause and Bodeen each earned the honor.

Bodeen was also selected to join the NCA instructional staff for the 2018 season.

The freshman squad competed in the JV division and received Most Improved Trophy for the camp, earned two superior awards, received NFHS certification, notched a bid to Nationals, nabbed a Camp Safety Award and earned three Spirit Sticks.

Geneseo cheer Coach Karman Bodeen and Assistant Coach Noelle Zumbrook each received NFHS coaching certification.
