The Lady Leafs’ Josie Brown was an individual champion, and Geneseo had three finishers in the top 10 in the junior race at the Geneseo Invitational, on Sept. 16.

Brown (20:38) earned an individual title for the second consecutive year at the Richmond Hill race which splits each team up by grade class.

The Lady Leafs’ Julia Poel came in third place in 22:26, and Adia Raya was ninth in 24:11.

With Geneseo coming off a good performance at First to the Finish, the Lady Leafs being able to pack up as a team will be a huge factor if they want to return to state as a team.

“Our extra training has given us more confidence going into our races,” Poel said. “It’s made us more mentally strong and that’s great.”

Poel believes the great Geneseo crowd support helped spur the Lady Leafs to push even harder on the hills amidst a hot and humid day.

The Lady Leafs’ sophomore class had no problem packing up at the top finishing second as a team.

The Lady Leafs’ Anna Girten was runner-up with a time of 21:08, and Lauren Belvel was one spot back in third place in 21:24.

The duo of Girten and Belvel work well together to move their way up the pack, and Girten thinks the rapport the team has will make a difference.

“I think we have a really good team this year,” Girten said. “Our team chemistry is really good. It makes running a lot more fun and we have a lot of fun in practice.”

Geneseo’s Claire Hall crossed the finish line in eighth in 22:07, and Anna Pierce finished 12th in 23:18.

The Leafs’ Clare LeGrand ran down 18th place in 25:27, and Morgan Laxton finished 21st in 26:30.

Geneseo’s Emma Heller landed 28th in 28:33 to round out the top seven.

In the freshmen race, Megan Soria paced the Lady Leafs to a sixth-place finish in 23:30, and Geneseo finished runner-up in the team competition.

The Leafs’ Emma Terronez ran down seventh in 23:35, and Avery Magerkurth finished in eighth in 24:13.

Geneseo’s Joci Hasson landed 16th in 26:56 to round out the top seven.

The Lady Leafs’ Veronica Eilers capped her final run at Richmond Hill with a 11th place finish in 23:19.

Rebekah Beard raced to a 19th-place finish in 26:45, and Brandi Gatter finished 26th in 30:32.

Geneseo’s next race will be at the Freeport Pretzel Invite at Highland Community College, on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 9:30 a.m.
