NIB 12 tournament

The Maple Leafs held a slim lead over Sterling coming into the NIB 12 tournament, at Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Club, on Sept. 29.

At the end of the day, Geneseo held a three-stroke advantage to earn the NIB 12 West title and finish third overall in the tourney.

“Every single putt and every single attention to detail moment mattered,” Geneseo Coach Kyle Bess said. “If we had missed a couple that day then we aren’t conference champs.”

A sophomore, Seth Winchell shot the low round for the Leafs with an 80 to finish tied for ninth overall.

“You know what you are going to get out of your one and two (players),” Bess said. “It’s three through six that make a team. If you can get those other guys going it’s huge.”

Geneseo’s Mick Haverland fired an 83 to finish tied for ninth, and Will Pace and Danny Ford each finished with an 87 to tie for 22nd place.

The Maple Leafs’ Jarron Nordstrom carded a 91, and Patrick Turpin finished with a 94.

After earning points during the conference season and NIB 12 tourney, Geneseo’s Haverland and Winchell each earned NIB 12 West All-Conference honors by earning enough points to land them among the top eight players in the NIB 12 West.

In the frosh/soph tournament, Geneseo finished fifth among a 10-team field.

Zachary Henderson shot the low round for the Leafs with an 87 to tie for fifth place, and Derek Johnson and Chase VanKlaveren each finished with a 96 to finish tied for 20th place.

Tim Lehman carded a 104, and Dawson Decap finished with a 112.

Geneseo’s Ean Lovett finished with a 115.

Metamora Regionals

The Maple Leafs finished runner-up at the Class 2A Mendota Regional, on Oct. 3.

Geneseo (339) finished second behind only Alleman in the 10-team field at Mendota Golf Club, and GHS’ Haverland fired an 84 to finish fifth individually.

Geneseo kept getting good performances from all six players with a logjam at the top of the leaderboard.

The Leafs’ Devin VanRycke, Winchell and Turpin each shoot an 85.

Geneseo’s Pace carded an 88, and Ford finished with a 93.

The Maple Leafs’ team score advanced them to the Class 2A Grayslake Central Sectional meet at Stonewall Orchard, in Grayslake, on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
