The Lady Leafs’ cross country team had their season end with an 11th-place finish at the Class 2A Normal U-High Sectional, at Maxwell Park, in Normal, on Oct. 28.

Josie Brown paced the Lady Leafs with a 27th place finish in 18:53, on the three-mile course.

Brown fell short of grabbing final individual qualifying spot at state by 18 seconds.

Geneseo’s Lauren Belvel raced to a 36th-place finish with a time of 19:10, and Julia Poel finished 50th in 19:41.

The Lady Leafs’ Anna Pierce grabbed 68th in 20:09, and Anna Girten finished 70th in 20:11.

Geneseo’s Claire Hall clocked in at 20:15 to finished in 73rd place, and Megan Soria finished in 88th place in 20:50.

A favorite for the state title, Dunlap (46) won the sectional crown in a 18-team field filled with some of the state’s best teams, and Geneseo finished in 11th place with a 236 team score.

The Lady Leafs’ one-to-five who made up the team score were separated by only 1:18, and one-to-seven for Geneseo was separated by 1:57.

According to rankings compiled by il.milesplit.com, all five of the qualifying schools were ranked among the top 25 in Class 2A.

Ranked fourth in the state, Mahomet-Seymour finished runner-up (126), and Urbana (152) nabbed third.

Peoria Notre Dame snagged fourth (163), and Washington landed fifth (168).

With five members of the Lady Leafs competing as underclassmen, Geneseo has the potential to return all seven members who competed at sectionals next season.
