The Geneseo bowling association is looking for a few good men and women to join the new board.

Following a national mandate by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), all men’s and women’s bowling association in the USBC must merge in 2018 or risk being dropped from the organization.

A chairperson of the transition committee, Chris Schumacher is looking for potential candidates to help fill out the new 11 person board and add an association manager which is a paid position.

“This is an opportunity for those who love to bowl to step in and get involved and help keep the sport alive,” Schumacher said.

Board members duties include helping the associations organize fundraisers for different causes, handle disputes on scores and averages, help set up tournaments, help support the youth bowling program and make nominations and vote on the hall of fame.

The transition committee wants to have a list of applicants ready by Jan. 31 and plans to hold elections for offices in March.

Comprised of nine members who have already begun work on creating bylaws, the transition committee wants to pave the way for a smooth handoff by July 31 deadline.

While changes are happening on the board, local bowlers should see no negative effects to the routine they have found at their local alleys.

“It will be transparent to the local bowler,” Schumacher said. “They shouldn’t notice anything different other than with banquets and the hall of fame.

“We aren’t sure how that will be handled, but that will be for the new board to decide.”
