The Lady Leafs’ basketball team improved its record to 4-0 after picking up a pair of victories at the Geneseo Thanksgiving Tournament.

Geneseo vs. Sherrard

The Lady Leafs’ Hannah Himmelman isn’t going to let missed shots change the way she plays.

Himmelman finished with 18 points and seemed nearly flawless in Geneseo’s 51-30 victory over Sherrard, on Nov. 15.

However, sometimes it’s the shots that don’t go in that she thinks about most.

“You miss one or two and you start to get down,” Himmelman said. “You have to forget the past because the ball is going to keep coming back to you when your team needs you.”

Himmelman got Geneseo off to a hot start scoring seven points in the first quarter with a pair of turn around jumpers in the lane and a put back on an offensive rebound.

After Sherrard made a run in the third quarter, it was Himmelman scoring on back-to-back possessions that put Geneseo back in control at 37-21 with just two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

After getting in early foul trouble in the season opener against St. Bede, Geneseo’s defense was able to be aggressive without fouling.

The Lady Leafs were able to anticipate, deflect passes and created turnovers which halted the Sherrard offense and Geneseo led 29-12 by halftime.

“The thing we worked on in practice yesterday was the thing they brought to the game,” Hardison said. “If we continue to bring something that we work on in practice to the game. We are going to be mighty good.”

Heather Dietrich scored on a pair of steals in the first quarter and finished with nine points in the game.

Josie Brown scored eight points in the second quarter, and she finished with 13 points.

Breanna Smith grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to finish with three points, and Jane Thomas drained a 3-pointer.

Mariah Smith and Kaitlyn Webster finished with two points, and Keeli Frerichs made 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Geneseo vs. Alleman

Himmelman scored 14 points in the second half to help the Lady Leafs separate themselves for a 48-31 victory, in Geneseo, on Nov. 17.

Himmelman finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Geneseo’s defense forced 24 turnovers in the game.

The Lady Leafs’ Brown and Dietrich each had four steals in the game, and Geneseo outscored Alleman in every quarter.

The Leafs’ Dietrich, Frerichs and Breanna Smith each scored five points, and Anna McAvoy finished with four points.

Brown, Thomas and Mariah Smith each finished with three points.

Geneseo improved their free-throw shooting making 14-of-24 from the line, and dominated the boards with 28 rebounds to just 18 for Alleman.

Geneseo vs. LaSalle-Peru

The Lady Leafs made 4-of-6 from the free throw line to put away the rival Cavaliers 54-42, in Geneseo, on Nov. 18.

Geneseo sharpshooter Jane Thomas made four 3-pointers to lead the team with 12 points.

Dietrich tallied nine points, and McAvoy finished with eight points including 3-of-4 from the line in the fourth quarter.

The Leafs’ Brown finished with 10 points including six in the first quarter to help Geneseo finish the first quarter leading 13-2.

Frerichs scored eight points, and Himmelman finished with seven points.
