The Maple Leafs overcame a slow start to earn their first Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference win of the season.

Geneseo’s Isaiah Rivera scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and added a slew of dunks to help lead the Maple Leafs to a 50-45 victory, in Geneseo, on Dec. 9.

The Foxes started the game on a 12-4 run before the Maple Leafs bounced back and grabbed a 15-12 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Leafs didn’t trail the rest of the game, expanding their lead to 23-16 by halftime.

Yorkville closed the gap to just one possession heading into the fourth quarter, 35-33, but couldn’t crush the Leafs.

Geneseo’s Jarron Nordstrom scored eight points, and Mick Haverland added seven points for Geneseo.

The Leafs’ Jacob McConnell chipped in five points and two rebounds.

Tim Lehman scored five points, and Kaden Rink finished with three points.

Geneseo’s Griffin Tracey finished with three points.

The Maple Leafs’ next home game will be against NIB 12 West foe Rochelle on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.
