The Geneseo girls’ basketball team was defeated against Sycamore, competed against North Scott at the IHMVCU Shootout and notched a bounce-back victory against Ottawa.

Geneseo at Sycamore

Outside shooting was the difference with Sycamore draining 10 3-pointers during the Spartans’ 65-45 win over Geneseo, at Sycamore High School, on Jan. 4.

With Sycamore leading 34-27 at halftime, the Spartans came alive in the second half outscoring Geneseo 18-9 in the third quarter.

The Lady Leafs’ Josie Brown had a hot shooting night finishing with a team-high 13 points, and Hannah Himmelman finished with nine points.

The Leafs’ Keeli Frerichs scored seven points, and she made 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

The Lady Leafs’ Kaitlyn Webster and Tori Verbeck each scored four points, and Geneseo’s Heather Dietrich finished with three points.

The Leafs’ Maddi Barickman and Abbi Barickman each scored two points, and Mariah Smith made 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Geneseo vs. North Scott

The Lady Leafs were unable to topple the defending Iowa state champions falling

48-34 at the IHMVCU Shootout, at Wharton Field House, in Moline, on Jan. 6.

The Lady Lancers took a 28-16 lead into halftime, and Geneseo couldn’t make up ground trading baskets in the second half.

For the second consecutive year, the Iowa side Quad City teams defeated the Illinois side teams 4-2 in six games.

Geneseo’s Maddi Barickman looked right at home on the big stage scoring a team-high 10 points with three rebounds.

The Leafs’ Jane Thomas and Anna McAvoy each scored four points.

Brown, Smith and Verbeck each finished with three points, and Dietrich tallied a pair of assists.

Himmelman did a little bit of everything tacking on three steals, three rebounds and two points.

Frerichs and Webster each scored two points, and Abbi Barickman grabbed a pair of rebounds.

Geneseo at Ottawa

The Lady Leafs balanced attack paved the way to a 53-43 victory over Northern Illinois Big 12 West rival Ottawa, on Jan. 9.

Geneseo remains at the front of the pack in conference play with a 4-2 record in conference and a 9-7 record overall.

With the game tied at 11 after the opening quarter, the Lady Leafs separated in before halftime to take a 30-22 lead.

After committing too many turnovers in their game against North Scott (25), Geneseo only committed 11 while forcing Ottawa to commit 18 turnovers.

The Lady Leafs’ Dietrich finished the game with a team-high 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Dietrich scored seven of her 10 points in the fourth quarter to help Geneseo put the game away.

Himmelman had a nice stat line with eight points, six rebounds and a block.

Geneseo’s Verbeck tacked on eight points adding two assists and two steals.

Maddi Barickman finished with a team-high three assists adding eight points which included a pair of 3-pointers.

Frerichs scored seven points, and McAvoy finished with six points.

The Leafs’ Brown tallied six points and four rebounds, and Webster grabbed three rebounds.

The Lady Leafs’ next game will be against Morris, on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
