Kewanee MLK Tournament Geneseo swept the field at the Kewanee MLK Tournament with victories over Peoria Manual, Mundelein, Kewanee and Orion.

The Lady Leafs’ Hannah Himmelman was named tournament MVP, and Geneseo’s Keeli Frerichs and Heather Dietrich were named to the all-tournament team,

In the opener, Geneseo buried Peoria Manual in the second half on their way to a 64-34 victory.

The Leafs’ Tori Verbeck and Jane Thomas each scored 11 points to lead the team in scoring, and Dietrich finished with nine points.

Geneseo’s Himmelman, Kaitlyn Webster and Anna McAvoy each scored eight points.

The Leafs’ Mariah Smith scored five points, and Frerichs finished with four points.

Against Mundelein, the Lady Leafs put the game away with a big fourth quarter effort to win 53-38.

With Geneseo leading 37-31 at the end of the third quarter, the Lady Leafs outscored Mundelein 16-7 in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

Geneseo was outstanding winning the game from the free-throw line by making 12-of-18 from the line in the fourth quarter and finishing 24-of-33 for the game.

Himmelman led the way with a team-high 15 points, and Frerichs finished with 12 points.

McAvoy chipped in nine points for Geneseo, and Josie Brown finished with eight points.

The Lady Leafs’ Dietrich, Webster and Thomas each scored three points.

Against Orion, Geneseo’s defense was stellar in the second half helping the Leafs win 62-25.

With Geneseo leading 36-19 at halftime, the Lady Leafs outscored the Chargers 26-6 in the second half.

Verbeck led the offense with a game-high 15 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

The Leafs’ Himmelman and Brown each scored nine points, and Thomas finished with seven points.

Geneseo’s Frerichs and McAvoy each scored six points, and the Leafs’ Dietrich and Smith each tacked on four points.

Webster finished with two points, and Geneseo had a nice game from the line making 12-of-18.

In the championship game, Geneseo offense stayed red hot defeating Kewanee 59-35.

With Geneseo leading 33-20 at halftime, the Lady Leafs outscored Kewanee 28-15 to close out the game.

McAvoy scored a team-high 14 points, and Frerichs finished with nine points.

Brown and Webster each scored seven points, and Geneseo’s Smith and Himmelman each finished with six points.

Verbeck tallied five points, and Dietrich added three points.

The Leafs’ Adia Raya tacked on two points.
