The Geneseo pitching staff was lights out, and the offense broke through for a big inning to secure a 5-1 victory over the Panthers.

The Maple Leafs’ pitchers held UT to one run on two hit, while the offense scored four runs in the fifth inning, at Stone Field, on March 28.

Geneseo starter Isaiah Rivera pitched five hitless innings with three walks and six strikeouts.

The Leafs’ Cole Hartman allowed one hit in an inning of relief, and Ty Johnson finished the game allowing one hit and one unearned run.

Geneseo’s Jake Winslow singled down the third base line to drive in two runs in the fifth as the Maple Leafs took a 5-0 lead.

Kyle Wise finished with a single and an RBI, and Colton Garcia drove in a run for the Maple Leafs.

Leadoff hitter, Zac Olson finished 2-for-4 with a

double for the Leafs.

Geneseo’s Jaren Brucher reached base three times with a pair of singles and a walk, and Rivera finished with a double.

Rock Island Classic

Geneseo improved their record to 5-4 on the season after finishing the tournament with a pair of victories.

In the opener against Hononegah, Geneseo’s Kyle Pittenger pitched a complete game as Geneseo nabbed a 3-2 victory on March 30.

Pittenger allowed two runs on four hits to earn the win with two walks and seven strikeouts.

After falling behind Hononegah 2-1 in the third inning, Geneseo rallied with a pair of runs in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.

Payton Clauson singled home a run, and Hartman drove in a run for the Leafs.

Garcia finished with a pair of hits, and Parker Magness doubled for Geneseo.

Olson finished with a pair of steals, and Winslow singled and scored a run.

Against Sherrard, Brucher made his return to the mound in commanding fashion.

However, Sherrard stormed back to take the win 7-6 in the late game on Mach 30.

Brucher pitched four scoreless innings allowing one hit with seven strikeouts in his season debut after dealing with arm issues.

Sherrard pounced in the sixth inning scoring five runs to take a 7-4 lead.

The Maple Leafs rallied in the seventh scoring two runs fell just short of forcing extra innings.

Olson finished with a single and an RBI for Geneseo, and PJ Moser drove in a run for the Leafs.

Garcia continued his hot streak finishing with a pair of hits, and Brucher had a pair of hits including a double.

Clauson hit a double, and Wise reached base three times with a pair of walks and a single.

In the finale, Geneseo stomped to a 9-1 win over East Troy, Wis., on March 31.

With the game tied at 1-1, Geneseo finished strong at the plate scoring three runs in the fifth, another run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.

The Leafs’ Cade Hornback drove in two runs, and Brucher finished with a pair of hits.

Olson did a little bit of everything with a single, a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Winslow earned the win on the mound allowing one unearned run on one hit with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Clauson finished off the game pitching three innings of one-hit ball with a walk and two strikeouts.
