LaSalle-Peru at Geneseo

The cold and piercing rain dominated the Lady Leafs’ home opener.

Fans watched from their cars with temperatures in the mid 30s and winds howling across the Geneseo Soccer Pitch on April 2.

However, a 7-0 Geneseo victory over Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference rival LaSalle-Peru sent the Lady Leafs home with a warm feeling.

Geneseo created many good looks in the first half against the Lady Cavaliers, but Keeli Frerichs’ goal for the Leafs in the eighth minute remained the only score until late in the second half.

Geneseo’s offense began to warm up when Frerichs found the net again on a shot from just inside the box in the 33 minute.

The Leafs’ Dietrich broke through with a goal to expand the lead to 3-0.

Geneseo’s MaKenzie Thompson found the back of the net with an assist from Dietrich, and Thompson scored again on a penalty kick to hand the Lady Leafs a 5-0 lead before halftime.

Geneseo’s Melanie Parker scored early in the second half, and Dietrich scored to ice the chilly game.
