Sterling at Geneseo

The Golden Warriors shutout the Lady Leafs earning a 6-0 victory at the J.F. Edwards Complex on April 30.

Sterling’s Jayme Eilers was dealing throwing a complete game shutout allowing five hits with no walks and 12 strikeouts.

Geneseo’s Allison Yager hit a pair of doubles, and Ava Bieneman doubled to lead off the sixth.

The Leafs’ Bailey Mitchell finished with a double, and Cora Varland singled.

Geneseo at Morris

The Lady Leafs’ Bailey Mitchell hit a two-run home run in extra innings to nab a 6-4 victory over Morris in nine innings on May 1.

A sophomore, Bailey Mitchell finished 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

GHS’ Kaitlyn McKeag doubled to drive in a run in the fifth inning, and Jane Thomas hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning for a 3-0 Geneseo lead.

Bieneman hit a solo home run in the seventh, but Morris battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and force extra innings.

Caitlin Gilmore and Yager each finished with a pair of hits, and McKeag hit a pair of doubles.

Thomas earned the win in the circle with a complete game nine-inning performance with nine strikeouts and only one walk.

LaSalle-Peru at Geneseo

Bailey Spindel’s pinch-hit single to drove in the walk-off winner during the Lady Leafs’ 1-0 victory over LaSalle-Peru at the J.F. Edwards Complex on May 3.

Geneseo found the right recipe just when they seemed stumped by the Lady Cavaliers’ Taylor Donnell in the circle.

Bailey Mitchell led off the seventh with a single back up the middle, and McKeag sacrificed to move Bailey Mitchell into scoring position.

Spindel showed poise coming into the game cold and driving in the winning run.

“You can’t be nervous,” Spindel said. “You have to go up there with the mindset that I can crush this ball no matter what.”

A junior, Spindel said she felt the energy level change when the bottom of the seventh rolled around, and she feed off the cheers coming from her teammates in the dugout.

Geneseo Coach Pat Mitchell found it even more rewarding seeing the bottom of the lineup execute to be the difference.

“It’s hard to do,” said Pat Mitchell of Spindel’s pinch hit. “To come in cold off the bench compete and get it done, you have to give her a lot of credit.”

Thomas and Delaney Ostrowski combined to allow just five hits over seven innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

Geneseo at Sycamore

Bailey Mitchell hit a two-run home run to push Geneseo past the Spartans on May 4.

Ostrowski drove in a run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 1-1, and Geneseo pitching did the rest.

The Leafs’ Ostrowski and Thomas combined to pitch seven innings allowing one run on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Thomas (12-6) earned the win striking out five, and Ostrowski notched the save.

Geneseo at Alleman

The Pioneers ended the Lady Leafs’ comeback tour defeating Geneseo 3-2 in 10 innings at the Alleman Sports Complex on May 7.

Bieneman won on fire finishing 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, and Ostrowski doubled to drive in a run in the third inning.

After Alleman grabbed a 2-1 lead, Anna McAvoy doubled in the seventh and scored on a Bieneman single to tie the game.

However, Geneseo couldn’t manage any magic in extra innings to keep their win streak alive.
