Geneseo Wood Bat Tournament

Geneseo won the opener against Abingdon but fell against strong Legion teams from East Moline and Rock Island.

Geneseo vs. Abingdon

Two out hitting and Geneseo pitching helped close out a 6-3 win in six innings in the tournament opener against Abingdon.

Jake Winslow’s two-run single with two out gave Geneseo its first lead of the game, at Stone Field on July 6.

Abingdon grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but five hits in the third inning helped Geneseo take control of the game.

Dylan Pardoe tripled to get the offense moving, and Zac Olson singled to drive in a run.

Cole Hartman singled and drove in a run, and Winslow singled to bring home two runs and give Geneseo a 4-3 lead.

In the fourth inning, Mitchel Benhart put two runs on the board with a two-out single.

Benhart reached base three times with two hits and a walk.

Jaren Brucher earned the win pitching five innings surrendering seven hits, allowing one earned run, with two walks and nine strikeouts.

With the go-ahead run at the plate, Marshall Rice notched the save striking out two in an inning of work.

Geneseo vs. East Moline

In the second game, East Moline earned a 6-3 victory over Geneseo, and East Moline went on to win the tournament title.

However, Geneseo’s Legion team showed how much they had improved from when East Moline defeated Geneseo 14-1 in the first game of the summer season.

East Moline scored four runs in the second inning, but Geneseo responded with a three-run fifth.

East Moline scored two runs in the sixth to build a cushion.

Geneseo’s PJ Moser drove in two runs, and Brucher finished with a pair of hits.

Colton Garcia drove in a run, and Logan Loitz scored a run.

Geneseo’s Payton Clauson and Hartman each finished with a hit and a run scored.

Kyle Pittenger pitched six innings allowed three-earned runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Geneseo vs. Rock Island

In the finale, Rock Island rallied scoring two runs in the fifth inning to defeat Geneseo 3-2.

Geneseo’s Pardoe hit a triple, and Hartman drove in a run, drew a walk and stole a base.

Kyle Wise finished with a single, and Jacob McConnell pitched an inning-and-a-third of hitless ball.

Rice allowed two earned runs on six hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Moline at Geneseo

The Moline Legion team swept the doubleheader with Geneseo 7-0 and 6-4 at Stone Field on July 9.

In the first game, Moline made the most of its opportunities scoring seven runs, while Geneseo left eight runners stranded.

Nathan Beneke finished with a pair of singles, and Loitz laced a double.

Geneseo’s bullpen of Ty Johnson and Winslow performed well pitching three-and-a-third scoreless innings.

In the second game, Geneseo had a 3-2 lead at the end of the fourth inning.

However, Moline scored four runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good.

Clauson tallied a hit and drove in two runs, and Wise doubled and drove in a run.

Brucher singled and drove in a run, and Garcia tripled.

Beneke singled and stole a base, and Caden Hessler scored a run and stole a base.
