The Maple Leafs finish the final Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference meet in sixth place, and Neo Colter led the way with a 32nd place finish at Richmond Hill Park on Oct. 13.

A junior, Colter raced his way to a time of 17:39.1, and he sees big things ahead for the Maple Leafs when they add a talented freshmen and sophomore class into the mix at regionals.

“We are a really tight-knit group,” Colter said. “This is going to help us later on. Our coaches are helping us tapper our training for more speed work so we can work on our final kicks. We have an endurance base already built up from the summer.”

Competing against some of the very best teams in state at the conference meet.

Geneseo’s Colby Rapps wasn’t far behind Colter.

Rapps managed a 34th place finish in 17:46.4, and he believes hosting the final NIB 12 race gave other teams a nice final memory.

“Spencer (Lindstrom) talked to one of the top guys on the other team and he said they’ve seen nothing like this,” Rapps said. “It’s nice to mix it up and give them a bit more of a struggle.”

A senior, Andrew Rizzo landed in 38th place in 18:03.2, and Spencer Lindstrom finished 43rd in 18:20.2.

Nathan Carroll grabbed a 51st place finish in 19:23.4, and Will Sammons finished 58th in 20:40.0.

Geneseo’s Peter Rizzo finished 59th in 21:05.6.
