Geneseo at Ottawa

The Lady Leafs opened the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference season with a 43-38 victory at Ottawa High School on Nov. 30.

Geneseo (7-0) started its conference title defense with a defensive display in the third quarter to earn the victory.

With Ottawa 19-18 at halftime, Geneseo put the breaks on the Ottawa offense and held them to just two points in the third quarter.

Geneseo started the fourth quarter with a 27-21 lead and finished the game by making 9-of-19 from the free throw line to ice the win.

Geneseo’s Tori Verbeck was 4-of-5 from the charity stripe, and she scored six points in the fourth quarter to finish with 10 points.

The Lady Leafs’ Maddi Barickman continued to be an offensive dynamo scoring a game-high 15 points.

Hannah Himmelman scored five points, and Josie Brown finished 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Taylor DeSplinter hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter, and Keeli Frerichs finished with three points.

Kammie Ludwig scored two points in the fourth quarter, and Kaitlyn Webster was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Geneseo at Moline

The Lady Leafs showed how many ways they can hurt a team.

Geneseo (8-0) had its guard play working in the first half and post play clicking in the second half during a 60-44 victory at Wharton Field House on Dec. 4.

A guard, Geneseo’s Frerichs scored eight points in the first half and finished with six rebounds, and

Himmelman dominated on the interior in the second half finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

With Verbeck sitting out with an illness, Geneseo’s Ludwig stepped up with 15 points and six rebounds.

Maddi Barickman finished with six points and seven rebounds, Brown finished with four points and DeSplinter hit a 3-pointer.

Ali Rapps and Eden McAvoy each finished with two points, and Webster tallied four rebounds.
