Kyle Reiling and Joni Nelson captured the men’s and women’s titles in the first-ever Tudi’s Bark in the Park 5K race in Geneseo.

Reiling completed the course in 17:08 and Nelson clocked in at 23:21.

In all, more than 100 racers took to the streets on July 18.

“We’d been hoping for a good turn out, but the number we got even surprised us,” said race organizer Chris? Pederson.

“We had 50 people alone sign up on Saturday morning,” he said.

In addition to the 5K participants, more than 50 individuals — and their dogs — took part in a one-mile walk, while 30 children participated in the kids’ races.

“We heard nothing but positive comments from everyone,” said Pederson.

During the Bark in the? Park 5K, runners had to tackle Richmond Hill. “They ran up on the side with a 2 percent grade and came down the side with a 4 percent grade,” said Pederson. “We were wondering what they’d think about that, but the feedback we got was good. They said the hill helped break up the race.”

Pederson said he anticipates Tudi’s Bark in the Park 5K, which raises money for the Geneseo Humane ?Society, to become an annual event.

“Things couldn’t have been better. We were extremely pleased with everything,” ?he said.
