Thomas Roy Borkgren, 65, of Geneseo, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 16, at First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo. The Rev. David Esche officiated. Burial was in North Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 15, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

He was born Sept. 14, 1944, in Geneseo, the son of Maurice and Florence (Gradert) Borkgren. He graduated from Geneseo High School and married Marilyn Shoemaker April 9, 1972, at Ebenezer Church, rural Geneseo. He worked at the former Carp’s Department Store in Geneseo. He served in the US Army serving overseas in the Vietnam Conflict. He was a letter carrier with the US Postal Service (Silvis office), retiring in 1999 with 35 years of service. In recent years, he worked at Maple Bluff Golf Course, Geneseo. He was an avid golfer and bowler and loved working puzzles. He was a 50-year member of Geneseo First Presbyterian Church and a member and former commander of Geneseo American Legion Post No. 0350.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two brothers and spouses, Clifford and Ann Borkgren of Henderson and Terry and Teresa Borkgren of Carlinville; a sister-in-law, Judy Borkgren of Geneseo; a brother-in-law and spouse, Tom and Ann Shoemaker of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Shoemaker of Geneseo, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard “Whitey” Borkgren.
