Head coach Larry Johnsen knew his Green Machine team was going to have its hands full with host Rochelle Sept. 9 and the Hubs met those expectations head on.

The Hubs jumped out quick on Geneseo and never let up as Rochelle handed the Green?Machine their first loss of the season, 31-10.

“We found out where we are at,” said Johnsen. “Rochelle was a pretty physical team and now we will see how we respond.”

On Rochelle’s first possession of the game, the Hubs marched down the field and capped off the drive on a Nick Moore 10-yard touchdown run. The PAT kick attempt failed for the 6-0 score.

Rochelle scored again in the second quarter with Kane Rodriguez 12-yard TD pass reception from Moore, but the two-point conversion failed for the 12-0 lead.

The Green?Machine got on the board with a Sawyer Claus 24-yard field goal to cut Rochelle’s lead to nine, 12-3 in the second quarter.

Rochelle responded with a 52-yard TD run by Will Metzger, but the two-point conversion failed to give the Hubs the 18-3 advantage at the half.

“We gave up too many plays on defense and on offense we couldn’t get in a rhythm,” said Johnsen.  “It was our third game of the year and we were thrown into the fire and we didn’t do well.”

After the break, Rochelle punched in two more touchdowns in the third quarter. Rodriguez scored on a 61-yard run, but the two-point conversion failed, while Metzger rattled off a 47-yard TD run and Eric Duthie added the PAT kick for the 31-3 lead.

Mitchell Miller scored the Green?Machine’s first touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard run. Claus’s PAT was successful for the 31-10 final.

“There are some guys that have to step up and there are some guys who did step up tonight,”?said Johnsen. “Mitchell Miller came in and did a great job and Derek Mitchell also is coming along. We just have to figure out what we can and can’t do.”

Geneseo finished the game with 145 rushing yards on 44 carries and 36 passing yards on three receptions.

Miller led the squad with 58 rushing yards on nine carries, followed by Derek Mitchell with 51 yards on 10 carries and Grant Burress with 29 yards on 10 carries.

Landon Hoon ran for 13 yards on six carries, while Drew DeCap added 4 yards on one carry. Jacob Koster had two carries for a negative 3 yards and Luke Snyder had six carries for a negative 7 yards.

Snyder took to the air six times Friday night and ended with three completions for 36 yards and one interception.

Snyder connected with DeCap twice for 33 yards and Miller once for 3 yards.
The Geneseo defense allowed the Hubs 351 rushing yards on 40 carries and 12 passing yards on one completion.

The Green?Machine (2-1 overall) will host Yorkville tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Bob Reade Field.
