Apple's Mac App store has seen more than 100 million downloads.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- The Mac App Store has proven to be incredibly popular, as Apple(:AAPL) announced it has passed 100 million downloads in the store.

"In just three years the App Store changed how people get mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing the traditional PC software industry," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, in a press release Monday.

The Mac App Store offers different apps for the Mac line of computers, including education, games, graphics and design, and a host of other categories.

The popularity of the Mac App Store shows the demand for developers who create apps for a variety of devices, including smartphones, computers, tablets and other mobile devices.

Apple shares were lower Monday, off 0.45% to $391.85.
