Paul R. Gradert, 66, of Geneseo, died Sunday,?Dec. 11, 2011, at Hammond-Henry?Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 15, at Vandemore?Funeral Home, Ltd., Geneseo; where a Masonic ritual was conducted. Memorial may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or First Lutheran?Church.

He was born on Aug. 4, 1945, in Geneseo, the son of Albert R. and Ruth (Murphy) Gradert. He was a 1963 graduate of Geneseo High School and later graduated from Rock Island Technical School. He married Patricia Schaefer on May 6, 1967, in Atkinson. She died in 2001. He married Shirley Jean Werkheiser Delp on April 5, 2003, in Geneseo. He was employed as a delivery man in high school and after for Klavohn’s Furniture Store from 1962 to 1970. He then started his career at Christ Chickris, Consulting Engineers in 1963. In 1967, he was employed by Hyster Company as a draftsman for 34 years. Lastly, he had worked for Henry County Housing Authority from which he retired in 2007. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Kewanee and Geneseo Masonic and Moose Lodges, DeMolay, Kewanee Jaycees and Shriners. He had served as past master counselor of DeMolay, president of Jaycees, past master of Masonic Lodge,  and JCI senator No. 47782 of the Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife Shirley, two daughters and spouse, Paula Blair of Rock Island and Tonya and Kelan Wells of Atkinson; two sons and spouses, Erik and Shrhonda Delp of Atkinson and Aaron and Kerri Delp of Colona; eight grandchildren, Jessica Blair, Jakob Gradert, Adam Wells, Drew Delp-Conrad, Casper Weimer, Jason Johnson, Jon Sisson and Jarod Lamont. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Christopher David Gradert in 1968, a granddaughter, Anna Marie Blair, and a sister, Gertrude Vermeire.
