Loretta E. Redell, 94, of Kewanee, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Toulon Health Care Center, Toulon. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at Vandemore Funeral Homes Ltd., Atkinson. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation will be one hour prior (9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Abilities Plus, Kewanee. Per her request, cremation rites have been accorded.

Loretta was born on Nov. 14, 1919, in Prophetstown, the daughter of Sophia and Frank Specht. She attended school in Geneseo. She married Cecil Richard Redell on Nov. 20, 1937. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1997.

She held down many jobs over the years. She sold tickets at the Wanee Theater and was a sale clerk at Block and Khuls, later known as Carsons. She also worked in the office of St. Francis Hospital until it closed, and then at Kewanee Public Hospital until she retired. She volunteered at Abilities Plus Resale Shop until she was unable to continue because of Alzheimer Disease.

She was a great wife, mother, friend and neighbor to many. She will not be forgotten.

Survivors include her daughter, Joanna (Thomas) Thompson of Kewanee; son, Terry (Pat) Redell of Woodridge; grandchildren, Angela (Tim) Hamilton, Jeff (Julie) Catton, Cathy (Robert) Nelson, Steve (Brandi) Catton, Liz Redell and Mark Redell; great grandchildren, Brandy (John) Ennis, Cody Hamilton, Zachery Catton, Kelsey Catton, Steven Nelson, Cameron Nelson, Dakotah Hamilton, Alyssa Catton, Jack Redell and one yet-to-be-named; great-great grandchildren, Bryce Ennis and Caden Baele; nieces, Carol (Wayne) Youngberg and Connie (Tom) Goodwin. She was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn; sister-in-laws, Esther Osborne and Doris Croegeart; brother-in-law, Edmund (Mick) Croegeart; and nephew, Gorden Croegeart.
