Iris Cashman Anderson, 88, of Geneseo, formerly of Mt. Morris, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13 with a visitation two hours prior to the service.

Iris Cashman Anderson, 88, of Geneseo, formerly of Mt. Morris, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13 with a visitation two hours prior to the service.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1926, in Freeport, the daughter of Nelson and Francis (Wiltshire) James. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1944. She married Harry Cashman of Polo on April 15, 1945. He died on Feb. 22, 1978. She later marred Clarence Anderson of Rockford. He died on Jan. 1, 2008.

Iris helped on the family farm for many years and also was a secretary for Watts Publishing in Mt. Morris and the Oregon School District. She was well known throughout Northern Illinois for her beautiful singing talent. She performed for more than 60 years at numerous events including the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, church events and crusades, and was a featured soloist in many cantatas. She participated in several women’s clubs and singing groups. She was a former member of the Mt. Morris Evangelical Free Church and the Rockford First Evangelical Free Church. She was devoted to serving the Lord and her loving family.

Survivors include a son, David (Faith) Cashman of Geneseo; daughter, Diane (Dan) Overmyer of Valparaiso, Ind.; grandchildren, Chris (Lisa) Cashman of Chicago; Amber (Steve) Remsen of Hillsboro, Ore.; Jeremy (Chelsea) Overmyer of Elkhart, Ind., and Josh Overmyer of Valparaiso; and great grandchildren, Carissa Cashman, Lily Remsen and Alix Mercer. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; son, James Cashman; three brothers and one sister.
