John Rose, 89, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at his son's home in Farmington, Mich. Funeral services will be held at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home in Farmington on Saturday, Nov. 8. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., including a short service. A 2 p.m. burial will take place at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, Mich.

John was born Nov. 2, 1924, to John and Elizabeth Rose in Detroit, Mich. He attended Bush High School in Center Lane, Mich. John served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946 as a Corporal in a B-17 as a ball turret gunner and as a bandsman in both the military marching and dance bands in Kearney, Neb.

John returned to the Detroit area where he pursued an associate’s degree in engineering, followed by 20 years of employment in Detroit’s automotive industry as a plant layout engineer. Moving to Geneseo, John worked for International Harvester in plant engineering and then finished his career with the U.S. Government, Department of Defense at the Rock Island Arsenal, Production Control. John lived in Geneseo for 36 years. He attended Geneseo Evangelical Free Church and St. Peter’s Evangelical Church.

On Oct. 30, 1948, John married Frances Ellen Ball, daughter of Frank and Netta (Stewart) Ball. John is survived by his beloved wife, Frances, of 66 years. He was a loving father of four children: Kathleen D. Hanna (Dan), Robert M. Rose, Thomas J. Rose (Michelle) and Margaret F. Barks; a proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren: Heidi Hammond (Terry), Jeanie Hanna, Joshua Hanna, Destiny Hanna, Grace Rose, Andrea Rose, Ian Rose, Joshua Barks, Emily Barks, Nicole Barks, Jennifer Barks and Jonathan Mattner; a dear brother of Isobell Hantz and the late Elizabeth Moore; and a caring uncle of 11 nieces and nephews.
