Gale J. Casteel, 78, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. As he wished, cremation has been accorded and a private memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services in Cambridge is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cambridge Fire Department or the Cambridge Ambulance Service.

Gale Joseph Casteel was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Burns Township, Henry County, the son of Ira Max and Ruby Mae Lindstrom Casteel. He was educated in Cambridge area schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1955. Gale married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Simkins, on Aug. 18, 1957, in Cambridge. He farmed right after high school and sometimes had to work two or three jobs to support his family.

Forty years ago, Gale started his company, CSI Manufacturing/CSI Homes in Cambridge. His greatest pride, joy, and love came from his family, his buffalo herd, and his “cabin.” His memberships included the Cambridge Lutheran Church, various wildlife conservation foundations, and the Quad City Home Builders Association. He had been a charter member of the Cambridge Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Joe Moriarity; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cindy Casteel and Derek and Angela Casteel; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Casteel, all of Cambridge; and seven grandchildren, Wyatt Moriarity, Tom (Stormi) Moriarity, Jarrod and Dalton Casteel, Nick (Amber) Casteel, Travis (Ashley) Casteel and Brant Casteel. Other survivors include six great grandchildren, Preston Moriarity and Hailey, Madison, Jase, Cambell and Preslee Casteel; two sisters, Charlotte King of Kewanee and Maxine Moore of Geneseo; a sister-in-law, Sharon Casteel of rural Cambridge; and special nieces, Kathy Clark and Terri Simon of Sheffield and Lona Pribble of Geneseo. His parents; a son, Kevin; a grandson, Matt Moriarity; and his twin brother, Dale, preceded him in death.
