At 7:58 a.m. Monday, July 10, Henry County sheriff's deputies responded to an accident involving a train and heavy equipment. The train, owned by Iowa Interstate Railroad, was westbound at the 1300 E crossing near 2100 N in rural Geneseo when it struck a Caterpillar Pan Scraper owned by J&B Excavating of Geneseo. The scraper, driven by Joshua Pierce, 40, of Geneseo, was traveling southbound through the crossing.

Pierce was transported from the scene to Genesis Medical Center by Geneseo Ambulance. The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by the Geneseo police and fire departments. The accident remains under investigation.
