Roger Joseph Maes, 62, of Geneseo, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at UnityPoint-Trinity, in Rock Island. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Crematory, in Geneseo. Private inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Roger Maes Memorial Fund. Cremation has been accorded.
Roger was born on Feb. 25, 1956, in Mt. Clemens, Mich., the son of Camiel and Mary (Wancour) Maes. He graduated from Richmond High School, in Richmond, Mich., and attended Lake Superior State College, and Michigan State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. Roger married Debbie E. Gimpel on April 12, 1980, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
He currently was employed as the marketing manager for John Deere Harvester, East Moline Works, where he had been employed for 39 years. Roger was a member of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. Roger especially enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Debbie; daughter, Michaela (Shawn Sproston) Maes, of Geneseo; two grandsons, Kale and Axeton; brothers, Marvin (Jeanette) Maes, of Tennessee; and Norm (Sally) Maes, of Michigan; and sister, Charlene VanMeter, of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Camiel and Mary; and an infant grandchild.
