Dawn Heitzler will be principal of Annawan Grade School, beginning with the 2019-20 school year. She will succeed Wayne Brau, who has been grade school principal for the last 11 years, and is retiring at the end of this school year.

Brau’s entire 33 years in education have been at the Annawan School District. Heitzler currently teaches fifth grade in Annawan.

In other business, the board approved Friday, May 24, as the last day of student attendance. Had the district not had to use eight snow days, the last day of student attendance would have been Monday, May 20.

Students also will attend classes on Casimir Pulaski Day on Monday, March 4.

The board also approved spending $12,000 for a new financial software program which will be purchased and installed by Specialized Data Systems, beginning in

the fall.

The superintendent was authorized to begin the bidding process for the playground upgrade project.

Board members learned last month the Annawan Village Board will contribute $100,000 in TIF funds to the school district for the project.

Members of the board’s building committee, as well as some volunteers from the community, will be involved in the design for the new playground and equipment.
