Michael A. Broxterman, 61, of Geneseo, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at Cottage Hospital, in Galesburg. A memorial service was at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee officiated. Inurnment followed at the National Cemetery, in Rock Island, where military honors were accorded. A visitation was from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the National Epilepsy Foundation or the American Heart Association.
Michael was born Oct. 21, 1957, in Chicago, the son of Leo J. and Elaine M. (Kubes) Broxterman. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1975, and proudly served our country in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard. Michael was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a radar technician working at Andrews Air Force Base, Dulles International Airport and lastly at the Peoria Airport for a career of 18 years. Michael was a former Boy Scout, he enjoyed trains, fixing electronics, photography, nature and walking, he especially enjoyed having coffee and helping his friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Elaine Herold, of Geneseo; his two sisters; Kathy (Dan) Dykema, of Geneseo; and Mary Newnam, of Rockton; his two nephews, Kyle Newnam and Anthony Dykema; and his niece, Kyra Newnam. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Leo Broxterman; his stepfather, Bill Herold; his grandparents; his nephew, Joshua Newnam; and two aunts.
