Judy Gerks, 82, of Cambridge, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society, of Geneseo. In keeping with her giving spirit, Judy has donated her body for the advancement of science. As per her wishes, there will be no services. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Henry County Humane Society - Geneseo.
Judy was born Nov. 18, 1936, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Hilda Podhaski. She graduated from Monticello High School and attended college at the University of Iowa. She married Irvin F. Gerks on Sept. 13, 1959, and spent the next 19 years being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She began working in the circuit clerk’s office at the Henry County Courthouse, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of Cambridge United Methodist Church, serving on various committees. She especially loved singing in the choir. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren, and her great-granddaughter. She also loved gardening, reading and the many pets she had over the years.
Judy is survived by her children: Patrice Morey, Eric and John; grandchildren: Blake Morey, Kyle (Ashley) Morey, and Patrick (Ashley) Morey; and great-granddaughter, Nora. She also is survived by her sister, Audrey (Les) Schatz; and her brother, Jeff (Carole) Podhaski; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Wanda (Howard) Weidman, Betty (Jim) Holdeman and Patty (Pete) Petersen; and nephew, Tom Schatz.
