Sara Jane Sierens, 78, of Annawan, died Friday, April 5, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital, in Davenport, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services to celebrate her life were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10 at Mineral United Methodist Church. The Rev. Terry Lancaster officiated. Burial followed at Evergreen Memory Gardens, in Kewanee. A visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Atkinson Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Sara Sierens Memorial Fund, where they will be distributed amongst several local charities.
Sara was born Sept. 6, 1940, in Ophiem, the daughter of Howard K. and Marjorie (Shearer) Anderson. She married Kenneth “Kenny” Sierens on Aug. 1, 1959, in Sheffield. Sara and Kenny farmed for more than 50 years in the Mineral and Annawan communities, as well as owned and operated the Mineral Elevator in Mineral and Atkinson for 35 years. She graduated Mineral High School, Class of 1958, and attended AIC Business College, in Davenport, Iowa. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading, followed her grandchildren’s sporting events, and was a loyal Braves and Bravettes supporter. She was on the Mineral District Library Board and Precinct Committeemen for Gold Township.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 59 years, Kenny; son, Troy (Tracy) Sierens, of Mineral; daughter, Wanda (Mike) Lucas, of Annawan; seven grandchildren, Joe, Caila, Alexis, Jordyn and Kristin Sierens and Austin and Hunter Lucas; two great-grandchildren, Haidyn and Ava; sister, Gay Ann Rahn, of Atkinson; brothers, Doug (Kathy) Anderson, of Creve Cour, Mo.; and Gregg (Linda) Anderson, of Chatham. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Kenny Joe and Jimmy Joe Sierens; and brother, Arden Anderson.
