Saturday, 6:10 p.m., Fulton County Deputies were dispatched to a two vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of U.S. 24 Hwy and McKinley Road.

Saturday, 6:10 p.m., Fulton County Deputies were dispatched to a two vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of U.S. 24 Hwy and McKinley Road.

 

Copperas Creek Fire and Rescue and Buckheart Fire and Rescue were also dispatched to the scene.

 

 

On arrival at the scene deputies were notified one driver, Ronald J. Grzanich Jr., 48, Pekin, was deceased.

The driver of the second vehicle, Steven McMahill, 62, Peoria, was subsequently extricated from his vehicle and transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained in the accident.

 

An investigation revealed Grzanich had been operating a small dump truck, traveled into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck McMahill’s vehicle head-on.

 

The impact caused both vehicles to overturn with Grzanich’s vehicle coming to rest in the East bound lane of U.S. 24 Hwy.Deputies and rescue personnel closed U.S. 24 Hwy to traffic for approximately three hours to conduct the investigation, remove the vehicles and assist in the extrication and treatment of injured parties.

 

Assisting at the scene were members of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Copperas Creek Fire and Rescue, Buckheart Fire and Rescue, Fulton County EMS, Fulton County Coroner’s Office and OSF Lifeflight.
