At the August 8 meeting, Geneseo CUSD 228 Chief School Business official (CSBO) Tim Gronski presented the Board with a detailed FY 2019 financial presentation, anticipating a balanced budget. "It's as close to a balanced budget as I've ever presented in my time here," Mr. Gronski said.   Mr. Gronski, spoke of challenges to school finances, which include union contracts, a federal and state minimum wage hike, the new state law on minimum teacher pay, property tax cap legislation, slow state funding payments, and more. 'The minimum wage hike could cost the district as much as $250,000 in support staff pay increases," Mr. Gronski explained.   Mr. Gronski detailed line items in the budget that would enhance student life. These included $125,000 for Chromebooks and iPads and $30,000 for new, state-of-the-art football helmets.   He also indicated the teacher salaries for FY 19 would be up 2.35%.   Board member Dr. Kyle Ganson said, "The public would be absolutely shocked at how much schools up north are spending per pupil. Some are as high as $30,000 a year."   After the meeting, Mr. Gronski said the Geneseo per student spending is approximately $10, 159. Mr. Gronski is in his 13th year of service to the Geneseo Schools. A former business teacher, he is now in his 6th year as CSBO. The Board next meets at 5 PM September 12 at the District Office at 648 N. Chicago Street.
