Shirley Mae Sand
Houston - On Friday, May 14, 2021, Shirley Mae Sand (Haaga/Kinnear) passed away. She died at home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 77. Shirley was born January 10, 1944 in Geneseo, Illinois to Lyle and Desyl Sand. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Geneseo High School in 1962. That same year she married William Haaga with whom she moved to Chicago and then to Houston, Texas. They raised three sons and a daughter. After more than 20 years as a homemaker, Shirley embarked on a new life as a reservations clerk with Continental airlines. She bought her own home, traveled extensively, and married Frank Kinnear in 1993. After retirement she was an active grandparent, gardener and occasional political activist. She embraced PEACE as her personal slogan.
Shirley is survived by her sister Mary Allen, by her three sons, Curtis Haaga, Randy Haaga (wife Maria, and grandchildren Joe Haaga and Joanna Rogers), Michael Haaga (wife Carol, and grandchild Paul Schrum who preceded her in death), by her daughter Michele Marousek (husband Steve, and grandchildren Steven Haaga, Sarah Cholewinski, Elizabeth Cholewinski, and David Cholewinski, Jr.), and by her step-son Eric Kinnear (grandchildren Jordan Kinnear and Zaden Kinnear).
