Patricia Ann (Appell) Freed
Owatonna - Patricia Ann (Appell) Freed, 77, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021 in Owatonna, Minn., surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. She had a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's/Lewy Body Dementia.
Pat was born on April 11, 1944 in Galesburg to Martin and Lucille Appell. She graduated from Galva High School and continued her education at Bradley University in Peoria. In 1964, Pat married Allen (Butch) Freed, her high school sweetheart. They celebrated their 57th anniversary in October.
Pat had a love of travel that led her to pursue a fulfilling career as a travel agent. She and Al enjoyed many trips and adventures over the years. She loved their daily walks, spending time at the beach, and especially loved the holidays when she could be with family, friends and grandchildren. Though she enjoyed her many travels, her true happy place was her role as "Grammie." Pat was so generous, always helping those around her. She touched many lives with her bright and energetic personality.
Pat is survived by her husband, Al Freed; two daughters, Kim (Pat) Smith of Owatonna, Minn., and Kelli Gardner of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Lauren Smith, Heather Peters, Rachel Fenske, Ty Gardner, Nicholas Smith, Nathan Smith, Taylor Gardner, Lexi Gardner and Chase Gardner; and three great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Becky Olson Merritt of Phoenix and Deb (Mike) Tarleton of Galva; three nieces and one nephew.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation (parkinson.org/ways-to-give).
