Annawan - Mary L. Engels, 80, of Annawan, died at 3:56 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2022 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 28 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

She was born February 24, 1941 in Kewanee, the daughter of Pete and Eleanor Frantzen. She had been married to Joseph Louis Van Damme and then married Robert L "Herman" Engels on July 18, 1981 in Annawan and he preceded her in death on May 8, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Terry, Larry, Fred, Everett, Pete, Bob, Henry, Leroy, Michael, Allen, Joe, Richard and her sisters; Violet, Caroline, Carrie and Francine. She is survived by her children; Lorie Ann Capelle of Arizona, Ricky Van Damme of Annawan and Randy Van Damme of Kewanee, two grandchildren, Nichole Brandenburg and Jordan Wooden, four great grandchildren, a special niece, Lisa Frantzen-Nevill, her companion of several years, Walt VerVynck of Kewanee and several nieces and nephews.

Mary attended Visitation Catholic School in Kewanee. She had worked as a waitress for many years at the Atkinson Truck Stop and the Purple Onion in Annawan. She had also worked at Wyffels Seed Company and had helped farm with her husband Herman. She enjoyed going to craft shows and flea markets. Her favorite passion was decorating her home for Christmas and winning the decorated home award in Annawan for several years.
