Mary Ellen Shambaugh
Mary Ellen Shambaugh, lifelong Henry County resident died Sunday, January 30, 2022, in her recliner at home just a few weeks short of her 74th birthday on February 22nd. Her passing came after a lifetime of warmth, kindness, love, and comfort gained from her life as a friend, co-worker, mother, grandmother, and wife. She enjoyed watching wildlife, chatting, and local goings on.
She spent years on 3rd shift at the Plaza helping the late-night crowd, then she worked as a rural mail carrier until her retirement. She took great pride in her vocations and treated customers like family.
At Mary Ellen's request, no funeral or memorial service is to be planned. Instead, she asked when you're next at Lisa's Place, have a piece of pie in celebration of her life. If you have a story about Mary Ellen you would like to share with her family, please do so by online or by mail through Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.
To do more for the world than the world does for you, that is success.
Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Margaret (Wilson) Farnam.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ken Shambaugh; daughter, Beth (Todd) Welveart; and grandchildren, Amanda and Grace Welveart.
The portrait in the obituary was of an 18-year-old Mary Ellen, done by Dorothy Graham.
