Robert “Bob” Seys, 83, of Coal Valley passed away June 7, 2022 at his home.
A rosary will be recited Tuesday at 4:00pm, with Visitation 4:30-7:30pm, at Schroder Mortuary, Colona, IL. A funeral mass will be 10:00am Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Colona. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family to be donated to local addiction recovery programs.
Robert was born May 6, 1939 in Coal Valley, IL the son of Paul and Margaret (VanDeWoestyne) Seys. He married Janice Murphy September 24, 1960 at St. Patrick’s Church in Colona. Bob was a self-employed farmer, retiring in 2018. He was a former Colona Township Road Commissioner, a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, Seed Corn Salesman, a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and an AA sponsor for over 20 years. Besides his love of being on a red tractor, he enjoyed having the kids and grandkids visit, driving the backroads, making early morning calls to check in on everyone and playing the accordion. Bob could fix anything and was a stock car enthusiast with his cousin, the late Jim Betcher. He was a dedicated father and true to his values.
Survivors include his wife Janice; children Dawn (Jack) Shelton of Silvis, Darcy Holle of Bettendorf, Derrick (Anne) Seys of Geneseo, Dayna (Gary) Mitchell of Colona, Darren (Shelbie) Seys of Parkland, FL, and Damon (Joy) Seys of Orion; 18 grandchildren Michele (Joe) Soukup, Nick Shelton, Alyssa (Jake) Vander Schel, Justin (Abbe) Holle, Jennifer (Mike) Bush, Amelia Seys, Taytum (Caleb) Hubert, Sayde (Gabe) Rogers, Chayse, Addy, and Lucy Mitchell, Von, Vail, and Vance Seys, and Noah, Hope, Thea, and Sophia Seys; 6 great grandchildren Xander and Lucas Soukup, Zoey, Braxton, and Bella Bush, and Rose Hubert; siblings Marie Fiers, Polly DeClercq, Bonnie Engstrom, Sue (Greg) Clearman, and Dick Seys.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brothers in law Gene DeClercq and Randy Engstrom.
