Mary Katherine (Richter) Chaffee, 86, of Geneseo, IL, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her loving family on July 24, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Malachy Catholic Church on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 10:30 am. Father Daniel Gifford will officiate. Burial will follow at North Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 5 – 7 pm. Rosary will follow at 7 pm, led by Deacon Art Ries. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to St. Malachys Catholic Church or the Geneseo Food Pantry.

Mary was born on March 10, 1936, in Mt. Hope, Wisconsin. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1953 and was immediately hired by John Greenwood at Central Bank in Geneseo.

On March 30, 1959, she married Harley Henry Chaffee, her best friend and soulmate. Together they raised five daughters, who in turn married five Geneseo-born sons-in-law, whom she dearly loved. Sixteen grandchildren eventually joined her family – each one very precious in her eyes. Followed by twelve treasured great grandchildren, all of whom reside in Geneseo. She relished her time with her growing family, baking and sewing for each one of them. Mary and Harley felt very blessed to have nearly all their family living in Geneseo.

Harley preceded Mary in death in 2021. Her parents, Al and Evelyn Richter, brothers Jerry and Tom Richter and sister JoAnn Bickett are also waiting to welcome her home.

We love and miss you both, Mom and Dad. “Bye for now.”
