James V. Van Lerberghe, 57, of Rock Island, IL passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Trinity Rock Island hospital.

James was born June 5, 1965 in Rock Island, the son of James M. and Rita J. Van Lerberghe.

James V. enjoyed running, walking, going to the pool, watching sports, visiting museums and the library, attending festivals, playing Rolle Bolle (aka Belgian Bowling) and Euchre, traveling, and spending time with friends. He graduated from J.D. Darnall High School in Geneseo. He attended Black Hawk College, Moline, earned a Bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University, Macomb, and earned a Master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

James worked as a grants accountant at Rock Island Project Now (a community action center addressing poverty) and as an usher at the local multi-purpose events arena in Moline.

Survivors include his father, James M. Van Lerberghe, Melbourne, FL; brothers, Kenneth (Lynette) Van Lerberghe, Carol Stream, IL; Wayne (Michelle) Van Lerberghe, Torrance, CA; and Derek (Mary) Van Lerberghe, Buford, GA; sister, Linda Lane, Melbourne, FL; niece and nephews: Logan, Kaden, Aaron, Tyler, RJ, Andrew, Marisa, Seth, and Caleb; aunts and cousins; and many friends, including dear friends Rick and Tara Taube. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita.

Funeral services and a memorial gathering are in planning, but expected in 2023.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rock Island Project Now office [(309) 793-6391] towards James' memorial.
