Dorothy Mae McAllister, 93, died peacefully on October 10, 2022 at Allure of Geneseo. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday October 16, 2022 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Port Byron, IL, with a brief scripture reading at 3:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery in Grand Haven, Michigan.
Dorothy “Dottie” was born March 1, 1929 in Geneseo, Illinois, the daughter of Harlan Kenneth McFail and Mary Ann Pemberton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard “Bernie” McAllister on October 8, 1996 and a brother, Harlan McFail, Muskegon, Michigan, also in 1996. She lived and worked for many years in Muskegon, Michigan but moved back to Port Byron, in 1990, and then years later, to Geneseo.
Survivors include her daughter, Diana Britton, granddaughter Laurel Valen and great-granddaughter Rosalie Valen all of Newport, Rhode Island; grandson, Paul Hovey, Kalamazoo, Michigan; 2 brothers, Larry McFail, Muskegon, Michigan and Norman McFail, Galva, Illinois, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
