M. Carolyn Ossian, 94, of Cambridge died at 1:50 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022 at WesleyLife, Illini Restorative Care in Silvis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Cambridge. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Friday, November 4 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with recitation of the rosary at 2:45 p.m. Burial will be in Red Oak Cemetery in rural Cambridge. Memorials may be directed to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

She was born September 5, 1928 in Cook County, IL, the daughter of Leslie Winfield and Ida (Snyder) Hunt. She married Orville R. Ossian on March 31, 1951 at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on January 17, 1990. Survivors include her nieces and nephews which she considered her kids; Barb (Bo) Elliott, Randy (Jan) Larson, Pam (Bob) Eiker, Shirley Stowe and Dick Larson and several great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death her parents, her sister, Marcia and a special friend, Arlyn “Shorty” Hancock.

Carolyn graduated from Cambridge High School in 1947 and attended Burlington Junior College from 1947-48 and Webster College in St. Louis, MO from 1948-50. She had been employed at Herburger & Son; Henry Service Co. and Henry County Locker Storage in the Accounting Departments from 1950-53. She was a former member of the Junior Women’s Club in Cambridge and the Galva Women’s Club and a former board member of the Henry County Task Force on Aging and the Henry County Home Extension.

From 1975-2019 Carolyn was the Director of the Galva Senior Citizens Center and President of that organization. She was honored as Galva Citizen of the Year in 1979. She was a member of Valley View Country Club in Cambridge, the Galva Rotary Club and St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling and playing golf and bridge.
