Janet Stees, 85, of Geneseo died on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21st at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo, and available on the church's Facebook page. Rev. Laura Kamprath will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at First Lutheran Church. Cremation rites have been accorded and private interment will be in McHenry Cemetery, rural Geneseo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
Janet Marie Peterson was born May 25, 1937, in Moline, IL the daughter of Walter S. and Grace (Peterson) Peterson. She graduated from Orion High School and attended Augustana College, Rock Island. On Sept. 28, 1957, she married Gene R. Stees in Orion. He survives.
Janet had worked as the bookkeeper and “Guiding Light” for Stees Construction, Geneseo for many years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and was a volunteer extraordinaire at the church and many organizations and groups in the Geneseo area. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and cross stitch and especially loved Christmas and any time with her family as well as traveling.
Survivors include her husband, Gene; children, Cindy (Greg) Kerr, Coopersburg, PA, Randy (Vicki) Stees, Geneseo, and Joni (Bob) Conrad, Pennsburg, PA; 10 grandchildren, Peter (Janna) Kerr, David (Lauren) Kerr, Ted Kerr, and Matt Kerr; Miranda (Jeff) Garrett, Dusty (Tiffany) Stees, Carissa (Mike) Wojciechowski, and Brett (Linley) Stees; and Austin Conrad and Britta (Elliot) Rollason; 10 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Roger (Dorothy) Peterson, Galesburg, David Peterson, Geneseo, and Tom (Jackie) Peterson, Orion. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carol Peterson.
