Richard Joseph Caldwell, 90, of Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully to heaven on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in his home. By his side were his dear wife, Marlene; and family.

Dick was born October 11th 1932 in Peoria to Clyde "Dick" and Margaret

(Roman) Coldwell. He parents proceeded him in death.

Richard “Dick” was a loving, compassionate, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School, Spalding High School and Plumbers Local #63.

Dick and Marlene met in high school; Marlene attended the Academy and Dick attended Spalding. They first met playing ping pong at the Catholic Youth Center. Marlene went home that night and told her mother that she had met the man she would marry. Dick and Marlene have enjoyed playing ping pong with their family ever since.

Dick served in the United States Air Force for four years at the time of the Korean War. He was a part of the Local Plumbers Union #63 and was the owner and operator of Caldwell Plumbing and Heating, along with his wife, Marlene, who was his secretary and bookkeeper for thirty years.

Dick and Marlene were married for 69 years and shared many loving memories with one another and their family. His adoring family always came first. His favorite times were family gatherings, especially the cookouts around the pool. Dick was always there for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dick also enjoyed his large collection of model trains. He spent many hours perfecting his train layout to share and enjoy with his family.

Dick and his wife, Marlene, immensely enjoyed helping Julie with her business, Peoria Estate Sales. Dick and Marlene enjoyed helping Julie from the very beginning.

He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. His family is very blessed that they had him in their lives. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather a family could ever ask for.

Surviving are his wife, Marlene; one son, Richard (Colleen) Caldwell Jr.; four daughters, Therese (Rob) Keller, Julie (Steve Huxtable) Revallo, Mary (Mark-deceased) Stephenson, Kathleen (Gary) Davis and Jennifer (Chad) Vonachen; and fifteen grandchildren, Brittany, Emily, Kimberly, Lindsay, Christie, Robbie, Nikkie, Timmie, Johnny, Jessica, Emily, Adam, Ben, Brandon and Anna. Also surviving are his ten great-grandchildren; his brother, Dan (Beverly) Caldwell; two sisters, Angela Easter and Lori Koger; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Margaret Ann Caldwell, Bernadette Langon, Rita Brecklin and Mary Schultz; two brothers, John Caldwell and Tom Caldwell; and one son-in-law, Mark Stephenson.

Richard was a parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Father Stephen Willard will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Peoria.

Memorial contributions in his honor may be made as Masses or to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
