Betty A. Casanova, 89, of Geneseo, passed away Wednesday July 8. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Society, The Diabetic Association, Quad City Paws Animal Shelter, or to Melvin Casanova.
Betty was born February 12, 1931 in Gladstone, MI, the daughter of Olaf and Jennie Olson. She went to school in Norway, MI, graduating from Norway High School, where she participated in Chorus and girl's trio, and played clarinet in the school band. She married Melvin Casanova In Norway, MI. They belonged to the Swedish Covenant Evangelical Church. She participated in the Church Women's Club, Women's Chorus, Bibleville Women's Ministry Group, and the Bible Fellowship Club. During her lifetime, she spent 20 years, residing in the Chicago area, and lived in Sterling, IL until she moved to Geneseo in 1976. During these years she was employed as an ice cream maker, and an administrative secretary. She was employed at Mellots Arts and Crafts, and she owned and operated Be-Mars Floral, Crafts, Gifts and Candy, with her daughter Marcia.
Betty is survived by her husband, Melvin K. Casanova of Geneseo, Her sons, Dale Casanova of Geneseo, Jeff (Trena) Casanova of East Moline, daughter Marcia (Jim) Boyer of Geneseo, grandchildren Michael (Christy) Casanova, Angela (Austin) Griffith, Katrina (Christopher Seebok, Auldon, Mark (Lea), Amanda, and great grandchildren Dylan, Logan and Andy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Jennie Olson, brothers, Joe, Ernest and George, sisters, Alice and Dorothy, as well as nieces Pat Keehn and Sharon Nelson.
