Obituary

Darlene E. Christiance, 86, of Geneseo, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 4, 2020. At Darlene’s request, no public funeral service or visitation is to be held. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society – Geneseo and First Presbyterian Church - Geneseo.

Darlene was born October 21, 1934, the daughter of Floyd and Dorothy (Olson) Gradert, in Geneseo, IL. She graduated from Geneseo High School, class of 1952. She married Oran Howlett in 1955. She later married Roger Christiance in 1977. She was employed by Hammond Henry Hospital, and retired in 1989. Darlene was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1945. She enjoyed gardening, canning for her family, reading, camping and fishing in Wisconsin, and handwork. She had a passion for singing. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kimberly (Dean) Lehne, Port Byron, IL; sons, Keith Howlett, Davenport, IA, and Kevin (Michelle) Howlett, Geneseo, IL; daughter #2, Dawn Adsit, Colorado; grandchildren, Noah (Lissa) Hinrichs, Sarah (Tom) Wroclawski, Dylan (Savanna) Sipes, David (Erin) Howlett, Kyle (Erin) Howlett, Kristopher Howlett; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; and her brother, Dale Gradert.
