Obituary

Virginia A. Nelson, 91, passed away on December 25, 2020.

Private grave side services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and directed to Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory, Geneseo, IL.

Virginia was born June 25, 1929 in Munson Township, to Clarence M. and Bessie M. (Crull) Sette. She graduated from Geneseo Township High School in 1947. She married Allen A. Nelson on October 20, 1948 at the Geneseo First Presbyterian Church. Allen passed away on October 23, 2001.

Virginia was a member of the Geneseo First Presbyterian Church since 1941. Served as Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Treasurer for 15 years, Church Treasurer for 21 years and sang in the choir for 53 years. She was Moderator of Presbyterian Women twice and held many offices.

She was a 4-H member for 6 years and a 4-H leader of the Phenix Maplettes for 25 years. She was a member of the Henry Co. 4-H Foundation Board for 25 years and was inducted into the IL 4-H Hall of Fame in August 2009.

She organized Geneseo Meals on Wheels Delivery in 1971 and was chairman of the board.

She was President of the Geneseo Jr. Woman’s Club for 2 years, a member for 17 years and served on the IL Women’s Federation State Board.

She volunteered for Hammond Henry Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years. In her free time, she loved to cross stitch, dance, and play cards.

Survivors include her children, Janet Nelson, Inver Grove Heights, MN, Robert (Robyn) Nelson, Colona, IL, LuAnn (David) Zude, Branford, FL; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and sister Marilyn McGaughy, Geneseo, IL.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents and brother Robert Sette.
